Things got unexpectedly racy for passengers onboard a recent Qantas flight when an R-rated film was played on all the aircraft’s screens.

Qantas did not name the movie in its statement, but multiple photos of inflight screens were posted on social media by users claiming to be on the flight, revealing the film to be “Daddio,” a 2023 sexually explicit film starring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn, reported several media outlets, including CNN, The Guardian, and USA Today.

Australia’s Qantas Airways has apologized after a sexually explicit movie was shown on every screen during a flight from Sydney to Tokyo.

Qantas Airways made the passengers including family and young children subject to an R-rated film during a flight from Sydney to Tokyo which eventually caused the company to face huge backlash. The airline has issued a public apology acknowledging the inappropriateness of the screening.

The Australian airline played R-rated “Daddio” for the entire cabin due to a technical problem on a flight from Sydney to Tokyo.

Qantas has been granted an additional allocation by the International Air Services Commission to serve Tokyo’s Haneda Airport from March 30, 2025.

A Qantas flight QF59 from Sydney bound for Tokyo on Oct. 5, 2024 had a small technical problem, according to reddit user MariKontan. The in-flight entertainment system was down, leading to the crew having to play the same movie on every screen.
