An Italian surfer hunting for waves off the west coast of Sumatra died after she was stabbed in the chest by the bill of a swordfish, in what is being considered a freak accident.

According to a Facebook post by “Raw Surf,’' and multiple reports, Giulia Manfrini, received nearly a two-inch wound from the fish while surfing off Masokut Island in the Mentawai archipelago. The 36-year-old was riding her surfboard when the sea creature leapt out of the water and struck her in the left side of her chest.
