A Las Vegas man who was arrested over the weekend with guns at a security checkpoint outside a Donald Trump rally in California is suing the sheriff and his department for defamation.

Vem Miller, 49, was arrested on gun charges Saturday after deputies found loaded guns in his car. He filed a defamation suit Tuesday against Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco.

Miller was arrested when he presented what Bianco said was a fake VIP pass at an interior checkpoint a couple of hours before the rally was scheduled to begin. He was cited on suspicion of illegally carrying a loaded firearm and possessing a large-capacity magazine and then released.

The Las Vegas man, found with a loaded firearm and a high-capacity magazine in his car, said he had no intention of shooting Trump.
