RBI publishes a list of holidays every year considering national events, regional festivals and weekend offs. Bank holidays in India vary from state to state but there are some holidays which are observed pan India.

The RBI oversees the scheduling of holidays, including Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays and account closure restrictions, which apply to both public and private sector banks.

In October 2024, bank branches in several Indian cities will observe 11 holidays, in addition to their regular weekly offs. These holidays are categorised under the Negotiable Instruments Act by the RBI.

It recently released the bank holidays for October 2024 and will observe a total of 15 non-working days, including State Assembly Elections, Gandhi Jayanti, which will be observed on October 2, Wednesday, and regional and state-specific holidays like Navratri, Durga Puja, and more declared by the different state governments.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) publishes a monthly schedule of bank holidays by state to ensure that customers can plan their banking tasks without any inconvenience. Banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturday of the month,

Indian banks are set for an extended holiday weekend, with closures from October 1 to October 3. Banks were closed on October 1 for the General Elections to the State Legislative Assembly and on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti.
