The Dallas Cowboys seemed on a positive trajectory in terms of their running game, but took several steps back in their showing against the Detroit Lions.

Ezekiel Elliott is hungry. The Cowboys once-star back can see his portion has slid across the table. Clearly, he’s looking to get some of it back.

Instead, Rico Dowdle, the starter, was on the field. He finished the Steelers game setting career-highs in attempts (20) and yards (87). The Cowboys signed Elliott back to the team, citing his success as a short-yardage back, but in a game where his skill sets were needed, he watched from the sidelines.

Ezekiel Elliott has been a spectator for much of his return to Dallas in 2024. The 29-year-old back hopes to be a bigger part of the short-yardages and red-zone offense moving forward.
