Security for Karen Read's first trial cost Massachusetts State Police more than a quarter of a million dollars.

The high-profile Karen Read murder trial ran the Massachusetts State Police hundreds of thousands of dollars in costs, largely in overtime pay.

The State Police security involved uniformed troopers monitoring the crowds of pink-clad demonstrators who came out in support of Read, as well as counter protestors. They also directed traffic, and patrolled the outside of the courthouse.
