Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will return home after an anti-climactic end on the national political stage as Kamala Harris' VP running mate.

Gov. Tim Walz faces a new era of divided government in Minnesota when he returns from the presidential campaign trail, now that Republicans appear to have broken the Democratic trifecta that helped put him on Kamala Harris’ radar.

In a significant blow to the Democratic ticket, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, vice presidential candidate alongside Kamala Harris, lost his home county of Blue Earth to Donald Trump. Trump captured 49.6% of the vote in the county where Walz built his political career, compared to Harris’s 48.3%.

Minnesota could get a new governor if Tim Walz is elected vice president on Tuesday. The election of Walz and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris would have a significant ripple effect in Minnesota.
