Heavy rains have lashed Chennai and 23 other districts on Saturday due to Cyclone Fengal. The visuals on social media shows parts of Chennai indudated with floods even as a man has been electrocuted at flooded ATM in the Tamil Nadu capital.

Chennai and neighbouring districts continue to experience strong winds and heavy rain as Cyclone Fengal advances towards the Tamil Nadu coast.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that Cyclone Fengal, pronounced as Feinjal, will hit the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram close to Puducherry with a wind speed of 70-80 km per hour, gusting to 90 kmph, this afternoon.

The uncharacteristically slow pace of the cyclone has caused it to hover over the Bay of Bengal, causing it to gather more moisture. According to experts, this is causing heavy rain in several parts of the state.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bengaluru has forecast intermittent rain and thundershowers on November 30. The city is expected to experience cloudy skies throughout the day, with the minimum temperature likely to hover around 18 degrees Celsius. IMD also indicated that temperatures could drop further as the evening progresses.

Cyclone Fengal is expected to make landfall on the coast of Tamil Nadu today evening and the India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for various parts of the southern states in view of incessant rainfall.

The cyclone is expected to bring severe weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, strong winds, and disruptions across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

As per IMD, Cyclone Fengal to cross north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram close to Puducherry as a cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph during the evening of 30th November.
