HOUSTON (Reuters) -Nearly a fifth of crude oil production and 28% of natural gas output in U.S. Gulf of Mexico federal waters remains offline in the aftermath of Hurricane Francine, the U.S. offshore energy regulator said on Sunday.

Gulf of Mexico oil and gas production is almost fully restored following hurricane Francine, a statement posted on the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement’s (BSEE) website on Monday revealed.

About a fifth of crude oil output and 28% of natural gas production in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico waters were still offline in the wake of Hurricane Francine, according to a federal report on Sunday. The storm barreled through the offshore-energy region and reached Louisiana as a Category 2 hurricane on Wednesday.

About 24% of crude production and 26% of natural gas output in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico were offline as Tropical Storm Francine moved towards Louisiana, the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) said on Tuesday.

As of the 7 p.m. CDT update from the National Hurricane Center, Francine had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph—just putting it above the 74 mph threshold for Category 1 hurricane status—was located about 350 miles southwest of Morgan City, Louisiana, and was moving northeast at 10 mph.

The storm developed into a full-blown hurricane at the end of last week, with Francine being the sixth named weather event this year.
