Two Alameda police officers involved in the 2021 arrest of Mario Gonzalez which led to his death had manslaughter charges against them dismissed because of the statute of limitations, a judge ruled Monday.

In what could be a big blow to embattled Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price as she faces a recall in November, involuntary manslaughter charges against two of the three Alameda police officers charged in the killing of Mario Gonzalez have been dropped this week.

The ruling to dismiss charges against officers Cameron Leahy and James Fisher marks another twist in a case that drew comparisons to the 2020 murder of George Floyd.
