Former MEP Clare Daly failed to make waves here after moving from her traditional north Dublin base, while Fianna Fáil's Mary Fitzpatrick, who has been trying to win a seat in this constituency since Bertie Ahern, failed on her fifth attempt to get elected.

Dublin Central is a constituency full of big players in the world of Irish politics. Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe calls the constituency his home as does Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald.

Irish voters are heading to the polls on Friday to elect a new Government, with the two centre parties which have run the country for more than a century and been in coalition together for the past 4 years – vying to stay in power.

Irish People's Jina Ahearne and independent Dolores Webster have dropped out of the race on counts four and five. After a long day, the count has now been adjourned to 9.15am tomorrow. Independent candidates Rebecca Hendrick and Richard Murray were eliminated on counts two and three, respectively.

With all boxes now tallied in the Dublin Central constituency, Independent candidate Gerard Hutch looks likely to be in contention for a seat with around 9% of first preference votes.
