US presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign team threatened legal action, but has failed to stop "The Apprentice" from being released in cinemas before the US election. The biographical drama was directed by Iranian-Danish filmmaker Ali Abbasi and the screenplay was written by US journalist Gabriel Sherman.

After a whirlwind fever dream of anticipation, Ali Abbasi's new film "The Apprentice" will finally hit theaters October 11. The Donald Trump biopic, which premiered at Cannes earlier this year, was acquired three months after its premiere for U.

Still, the film hasn’t quite been able to shake the fact that it was initially backed by a Trump supporter, which Abbasi chalks up to “the fucked up financing structure of indie movies in America” in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
