I watched a guided tour and it was very informative. I also think it's very cool that you can get into the castle courtyard for free; you only have to pay to access a tower or the interior. Full review by lillylestrange

I purchased on arrival. There is a provision to book online for large groups, but it is not really necessary for small groups or individuals. I paid cash but I saw people pay with Visa. There is a parking price of five Euros and that will need to be cash. There are tour guides but they are German. The only exception is at half past one if you prefer an English guide.

There are buses or taxis. Walking is also possible but depends on your fitness and luggage.

We did rent a car to have more flexibility. The German train system is excellent but not cheap especially if you're not traveling alone. We also visited Weimar, Dresden and its neighboring Swiss Saxony for some hiking. We then spent some time exploring Berlin.
